Thailand – Phuket

As I started getting into researching the best beach for our family to stay at while we’re in Thailand, I found myself getting routed to a large amount of information on Phuket.  My focus on more first hand sources, i.e blogs, seems to be paying off in much more relevant and personal information.

The We Love Phuket blog is really good! Apparently, there’s a fella named Jaime who has been living there for 9 years with his wife and family. It has great out of the way and less commercialized recommendations for accommodations, food and attractions. I need to spend some time reading through all this in-depth first-hand information.

I have to give kudos to the folks who came up with the name Phuket Gazette. Here there are classified ads for houses/condos for rent. I found a 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom place for about $400/month. I don’t know about the neighborhood, etc., but we’re definitely in the pricepoint sweet spot!

Geo Challenge Tips

Seems like there are an awful lot of people interested in improving their Geo Challenge performance. I can understand why as I am still in the battle with my friend for bragging rights. It seems to take forever to improve your score, but somehow we always manage to find the time and inch each other out. I feel kind of silly being proud of my new high score above 25,000 when so many others seem to be able to get 30,000, 40,000 or more! The bottom line is that the game requires practice. Here are some sites with good examples and tips:

This article talks about illegal “bots” some people are using to generate ridiculous high scores. The bottom line is don’t do it! First of all, it’s shameful and second of all, if you get caught, you get banned!

This guy is able to get 53 countries and 49 flags correct in one round. Looks like he’s legit and amazing!
